Decluttering your life means more than just purging your closet or clearing the table. It’s simplifying your life and being intentional with what you keep in it.
Rather than waste energy and stress over things that don’t serve you, you make room for things that make you happy.
Reducing the clutter in your life can also help get you out of a creative rut because it removes distraction and friction in the environment around you.
In this blog post, you’ll find ways to declutter and simplify your life so that you can focus on being the best version of yourself.

Declutter your environment
Simplify your environment by decluttering, organizing, and getting rid of what no longer serves you. Be intentional with what you keep in your space. Make sure that everything in your environment energizes you and, as Marie Kondo would say, “sparks joy.”
Here are some tips for decluttering your environment:
- Reflect on how you use your space. This will provide a guide for you to evaluate what’re necessities.
- Start one room at a time to avoid getting overwhelmed.
- Take everything out of all the drawers, shelves, etc. Put everything on the floor in front of you so you can see how much you’ve accumulated.
- Deep clean the area or space. Then take a step back and appreciate your space.
- Categorize all your possessions. Make a keep, a discard, and a maybe pile.
- Let go of sentimental or find a space-saving way to store. (Tip: digitize your memories by scanning or taking photos.)
- Organize and find homes for your items. Remember that each item has a home that it should return to after each use.
- Declutter your space often. Pay attention to what you use and continuously get rid of items that no longer serve you.

Declutter your digital space
Although not a physical space, our digital devices can get cluttered full of apps, emails, and more that no longer serve a purpose.
Here are some tips for decluttering your digital space:
- Delete apps that you no longer use.
- Back up and organize your files. Get rid of old ones that are taking up space on your devices.
- Reduce the noise in your social feeds. Unfollow accounts that drain your energy or that tend to get you in a comparison mindset.
- Hit unsubscribe to those daily marketing emails that fill your inbox. Those emails can pile up, so reduce the number of email subscriptions to only those that truly interest you.
Declutter your lifestyle
- Guard your time. Be intentional with how you fill your schedule. Cut back and leave room for activities that make you happy.
- Be ruthless with who you surround yourself with. Spend time with people that impact you in a positive way and avoid energy drainers.
- Let go of comparison—express gratitude for what you currently have in your life.
- Be mindful of your energy output. Pay attention and remove the distractions that don’t serve you.
- Be a mindful consumer. Think before you buy. Take a step back and ask yourself if your life really needs it.

Remember…
You will need to consistently set up systems to keep your space (and life) clutter-free. This isn’t a one-time purge.
Make sure you continuously pay attention and be thoughtful about what you bring into your space.
