This post is about the benefits of being single and why it’s OK to be unapologetic about it.
Yes, there are downsides and sometimes resentment from feeling “alone.”
Plus, family and friends’ added pressure when they ask the age-old question of “are you dating anyone?”
But relationships are often over-romanticized.
Blame it on those cheesy (but gotta love them) Hallmark movies during Christmas.
And those big cute fluffy bears and heart-shaped everything during Valentine’s Day!
I’m not going to lie – I’m a huge romantic and love all these things.
BUT! There are also major upsides to being single.
I wrote this post to prove just how awesome it is to be single right now and why it’s OK to be in a different place in your life.
Enjoy the process of finding love and relish/bask in your singledom while you can before someone snatches you up!

1. You can do whatever you want when you want.
You can base all your decisions on what YOU want to do.
There’s no need to check-in or consider anyone else’s feelings. It’s OK to be selfish with your time.
Relish being able to do this now because once a significant other or kids come into play – it’s no longer just you, boo!
2. More time to cultivate friendships.
Yes, you can do this in a relationship too, but it’s not the same.
When you’re single, you’re more attentive to friendships because you don’t have to focus on building a life with someone else. There’s no splitting time.
Research also shows that single people have a more diverse group of friends they consider close than those with significant others.
3. You get to learn from other people’s relationships.
You have the opportunity to learn from other people’s experiences without having to go through it yourself.
You acquire takeaways to apply to your future relationship.
4. You know you’re not settling.
You have peace of mind that you’re not settling with anyone just to be with someone.
Being single gives you time to figure out what you want in life.
Then eventually, you can find someone that compliments that life.
5. More time to focus on your goals and aspirations.
Being in a relationship is time-consuming. And that’s OK!
I’m just saying that you can solely focus on your goals and dreams when you’re single.
You can be selfish with your choices because you don’t have to think about how it will affect the other person’s future.
6. You’re the one with the fun stories.
Funny (or horrible) date stories? Stories about single girls’ night out?
Friends in relationships get to live vicariously through you and your adventures.
You get to be more open to whatever life throws your way, leading to amazing stories.
7. You learn how to be self-sufficient.
You have to be! Although I would love to have a boyfriend who kills bugs for me…
There’s nothing more satisfying than being able to handle the situation myself! I feel like a badass.
Being single allows you to become more self-sufficient, better at problem-solving on your own, and better in solitude.
All of this will better prepare you for a healthy relationship in the future.
