Hi friends! It’s the start of a new month, so time for another Month in Review blog!
I started this monthly series as a way to bring you into my world a little more.
In this series, I fill you in on what’s happened in the past month and talk about new goals I’m setting for the upcoming month.
You can see what goals I previously set for January here: Month in Review + January 2021 Goals.
So, let’s get into it!

Month in Review – January 2021
STARTED FIVE MINUTE JOURNAL
The Five Minute Journal was gifted to me by my good friend April, and I’ve loved it so far!
The book format makes it easy for journaling beginners to start building the habit of writing consistently.
I already journal morning and night, but I love how this supplements my journaling practice with simple prompts.
For example, in the morning, you write down three things that you are grateful for, three things that would make the day great, and one daily affirmation.
But my favorite is how you end the day writing down one thing that could have been better.
I love this part because it allows you to acknowledge and release a worry before you go to bed, which has helped me sleep faster!

READ 4X BOOKS
I finished four books this month – just one book short of my original five-book goal for January.
That’s okay, though! Because I really enjoyed the books that I read this month. All of them were empowering in different ways.
I got my feminist, girl power kick from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Outlawed, my dramatic epic tale from Fifty Words for Rain, and my modern Greek mythology story from The Song of Achilles!
I would definitely recommend all four books, so I have added them to my Lifestyle by Remi Bookshop.
Quick links below if you want to check them out!
- Fifty Words for Rain by Asha Lemmie (P.S. I have VERY mixed feelings about the ending of the book. So, if you end up reading it, please leave a comment down below and let me know your thoughts!)
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (there’s a reason this book is on everyone’s must-read list!)
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (FYI – this is the same author as Circe!!)
- Outlawed by Anna North (This was Reese Witherspoon’s January 2021 Book Club Pick)

NEW CAMERA
I did it. I took the leap and got a new camera with a flip display for vlogging.
I’ve always seen a place for video content on Lifestyle by Remi, whether it be through social content, vlogging, or videos to supplement the blogs.
The video content may not be ready for a while since I’m still learning how to shoot and edit videos.
But I’m super excited about the ideas I have in mind for video content – so stay tuned!
INAUGURATION
This day felt like the real start of the new year.
No matter your political views, this inauguration was historic, especially for women and women of color.
It also felt like there was a glimmer of hope again in our country.
The past year and everything that transpired at the Capitol felt very doom and gloom.
But, watching the inauguration made me feel like a proud American, especially when witnessing all of the upheld traditions even through the pandemic.
It showed our resilience as a country.

February 2021 Goals
FOCUS ON HEALTH
Does anyone else tend to “let themselves go” or become super lax about their habits in the winter?
After the holidays, it can be hard to bounce back and go back to a regular routine.
It doesn’t help that the cold weather can make you want to stay in bed all morning.
This month my goal is to pay more attention to my body and reset.
- I am going to use food as fuel instead of mindlessly eating when I’m not hungry.
- I will focus on getting better sleep.
- I will incorporate movement and workouts back into my routine.
- I will drink more water throughout the day.
February is the glow up month!
PRACTICE DISCIPLINE
I want to focus on staying disciplined and following through on all deadlines that I set for myself.
In contrast to my agency job, I am the creator of all my deadlines and can shift things around if necessary.
Lately, it feels like I’ve been shifting things around a little too much, though.
And it’s hard for me not to feel some regret that I could be further along in my blogging journey if I had just stuck to my original schedule.
It’s all about balance, so moving forward, I want to create schedules with more realistic deadlines and stick with them!
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SKILLSHARE
Skillshare allowed me to explore many different things during quarantine, including creative writing, personal finances, language, digital design classes, and more.
My goal is to take video editing classes on Skillshare and create my first Lifestyle by Remi video by the end of the month!
If you’re interested in trying Skillshare Premium, you can use this link to receive a free 14-day trial of Skillshare Premium: https://lifestylebyremi.com/skillshare.
TAKE MORE WALKS
I want to explore different areas in Los Angeles while there are fewer tourists.
This will also be a perfect opportunity to practice shooting with my camera to have footage to use in my practice edits.

Final Thoughts
I am cautiously optimistic for the second month of 2021.
January got off to a rough start but ended with a glimmer of hope that we’ve maybe turned a corner.
Regardless of what happens in the outside world, we must focus on the present and what we have control over (which is ourselves).
I’m excited to put more of a focus on my health and to learn new things this month!
