I love collecting eki stamps whenever I’m traveling in Japan. It’s a fun way to collect souvenirs and remember all the places you’ve visited. Or, at least, most places where you can find the stamp.
Stamp collecting is one of my favorite things to do in Japan because I love seeing all the details they add for each location.

What are Japanese eki stamps?
Eki stamps are stamps you can collect at train stations, temples, museums, and many of the main attractions around Japan. Most tend to have their own stamps.
They are created to represent and give you a gist of what the area or attraction is most known for.
Where can you find eki stamps?
For the eki (train) stamps, I’ve found them at the entrance or exits of train lines. Most of them are found near the JR lines specifically. Stamps for other locations are typically found either near entrances or information desks/offices.
➡️ Speaking of JR lines… Wondering if you need a JR Rail Pass for your Japan trip? Read this blog post to help determine whether a pass is beneficial for your trip.
How to ask where the stamp is
Need help finding the station stamp? You can ask one of the station workers or go to the information desk.
Here’s how you say: “Excuse me. Where is the train station stamp?”
Sumimasen. Eki sutampu wa doko desu ka?
(すみません. 駅スタンプわどこです か?)
Where can you purchase eki stamp books?
You can purchase eki books from bookstores in Japan. They’re a little hard to find in the store, so I recommend asking a store associate for help.
