How Do Positive Affirmations Work?
First off, let’s start with what positive affirmations are and how to make them work for you.
Affirmations are positive, clear statements that describe how you want to feel and what you want to achieve.
They are mantras that, when repeated repeatedly, can lift your energy and vibration to match how you want to show up in the world.
A study published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience used MRI to reveal that practicing self-affirmation activates the reward centers in your brain.
The mind is so powerful! Affirmations work because you can trick your body into thinking they are facts when you repeatedly reaffirm statements.
Affirmations impact your conscious and subconscious mind and help nudge you in the right direction.
Through the law of attraction, you start attracting things that align with your elevated vibration.
Now let’s get into how to write affirmations that work for you!
How to Write Effective Affirmations
Write in the present tense.
Write your affirmations ‘as if’ and use them to reaffirm who you already are.
Start your affirmations with “I am…” instead of “I will…”
When you say “will,” it means that you don’t already have it.
When you say “am,” you accept the affirmation to be true in the present moment.
Keep your affirmations about yourself.
You cannot expect your affirmations to change another person.
The only person you can control is yourself and how you act.
Focus your positive affirmation on yourself and how you’d like to show up.
Use positive words.
Avoid using “not” and focus on the positive.
The wording of your affirmation is essential. Your brain will focus on the words you use.
For example, suppose your affirmation is “I am not a lazy person.”.
In that case, your brain won’t register the “not” and will instead focus on the statement “I am a lazy person.”
Keep your words positive because your words shape your reality.

Add emotion.
Use emotion to fuel and propel forward the energy you want to evoke.
Your affirmations should evoke a specific and elevated feeling within you.
Repeating your affirmation will help raise your energy to match that feeling.
Keep affirmations simple.
Make your positive affirmations specific and brief.
Be clear about precisely what you want.
Avoid long paragraphs or statements that are confusing.
You want the ability to repeat your mantra over and over quickly.
Repeat.
The more you repeat your affirmations, the more you will start to feel as if it is true.
You will start to trick your mind and body into believing it as fact.
Make repeating your affirmations an integral part of your daily routine.
