Hey reader! Today I wanted to share an excerpt from my latest weekly newsletter where I shared my thoughts about REAL self-love and how to reset and realign with yourself (and your goals).
I enjoy writing these letters to my subscribers because it’s a way for us to connect on a more personal level. In these newsletters, I share updates about my journey as a creator, the latest content available, intentional living tips, and, of course, a quote of the week.

RE: LBR Newsletter 💌 | REAL self-love + why I walked away from social media for a week
Hey [INSERT YOUR NAME HERE],
It’s been a while since I’ve written one of these newsletters. I’ve missed connecting with you every week. In today’s newsletter, I want to share a little about what I’ve been up to, why I took a break from social media, and talk about new content available on the blog.
So, let’s start with: why I stepped away from social media for a week (even though it’s MY JOB to be active).
Last week I needed to give myself some real self-love by calling myself out on my sht*.
I had been allowing myself to de-prioritize my physical health for the sake of creativity and my dream.
After I moved, my whole routine was out of whack. I felt like I was constantly playing catch up and was having a hard time balancing getting work done and unpacking my new place (which I still am not fully unpacked btw).
I felt like I was just going through the motions again.
Like I was losing sight of what I was even doing with my blog, YouTube, Instagram, etc. It felt like I was just throwing paint at the canvas.
But early last week, I was forced to stop working because of an awful migraine—one of those where any light exposure made you want to 🤮—that lasted two whole days!
I was frustrated but ended up having a real “it is what it is!” moment with myself.
I had to remind myself that everything would be okay, and it would all work out the way it was supposed to.
Here’s what I learned after my week of rest:
- Rest is productive. It allowed me to re-energize to come back stronger, clearer, and more motivated.
- Taking a step back can give you clarity. Walking away for a beat allowed me to reassess and realign with my big-picture goals. It gave me the time to work out the kinks and create better systems that support my goal as a creator.
- Hitting reset doesn’t mean going backward. It means pushing pause to move forward again but with a clearer direction.
If you also feel like you need a break, here are a few tips to help you reset and realign with yourself and your goals:
- Do a body scan. Close your eyes and do a body scan of how you’re feeling physically. What feels sore and tight? Do you feel sluggish? If so, how can you address and alleviate some of the issues you’re feeling?
- Check-in with or set your goals. What are you prioritizing in your life? How do you plan to reach your goals this year? How are you doing against the goals you’ve set? Ask yourself why you want to achieve those goals.
- Express gratitude for where you are in your journey. You may not be where you’d like to be—but that’s okay! If you feel overwhelmed by how big your goals are, take a step back and just focus on just getting 1% better daily.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase; just take the first step.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- Be present and take in your surroundings. Whether it be expressing gratitude for your current living situation or noticing the little details when you’re out and about, take the time to look around and be present in your current environment.
Now, let’s get into this week’s newsletter!

🔥 Are you looking for things to do in LA this summer? Here are a few ideas:
- Ride the Echo Park swan boats.
- Drive down to the OC Fair.
- Explore one of the many FREE museums in LA.
- Learn more about the sky and our universe at the Griffith Observatory.
- Watch an outdoor movie screening at one of LA’s iconic locations
🔥 Food Recommendations of the week:
- Hokkaido Ramen Santouka (Torrance, CA) – Located in a Japanese market in Torrance, Santouka has amazing noodles and broth. My go-to order is the spicy miso ramen.
- RYLA (Hermosa Beach, CA) – I recommend going for an early dinner here because it tends to get busy and really noisy at night. The food is delicious (Japanese/California Fusion). My favorites from the menu: Hokkaido Scallops, Hokkaido Milk Bread w/ Tobiko Nori Sauce, Flannery NY Steak, and the Soft Shell Crab corn soup. (Note that the menu is seasonal and constantly changing). RYLA is featured in this video here.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s newsletter.
Have a great rest of your week!
With love,
Remi
