1. Find the fall foliage in LA
Although LA isn’t known for its changing leaves in the fall, there are some hidden gem places to find fall foliage in Los Angeles. Here’s a list of a few places to visit where you can see the fall color change in LA:
- Descanso Gardens
- Huntington Library
- Oak Glen
- Big Bear
- Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanical Garden
- Getty Museum – most people don’t talk about this, but I love the garden in the Getty Center. They refer to the garden as living art because it changes depending on the season. You can see what it’s like to visit the Getty in my video here
2. Celebrate Halloween at Disneyland
Not a fan of getting spooked? Visit Disneyland during Halloween time, where you’ll experience Halloween-themed ride overlays, food, decorations, and more from September 2nd through October 31st, 2022.
You’ll even see your favorite characters dressed up in special seasonal attire for a limited time!

3. Get spooked at Universal Hollywood Horror Nights
Let’s just say there are definite benefits to celebrating fall in the world’s entertainment capital! If you enjoy getting spooked, you must add going to the Universal Hollywood Horror Nights to your “LA Fall Bucket List.” N
ot only are some parts of the experience located on actual Hollywood studio back lots, but the monsters and scary “things” have their makeup done by some of the best makeup artists in the business!
Jordan Peele fans? Visit the recreated “Nope!” set at Universal Horror Nights this year (2022).
4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Pick your own pumpkin and experience fall festival activities at the various pumpkin patches. There are lots of places to go:
- Underwood Family Farms
- Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch
- Shawns Pumpkin Patch
- Tina’s Pumpkin patch

5. Pick apples at Oak Glen
The fall season is an important time for the Oak Glen community, which is an area in San Bernadino County that is known for its apple orchards. You’ll need to drive a bit to get to the farms, but they make it worth it with lots of fall farm activities on display.
You’ll be able to pick your own apples and pumpkins, see the fall foliage, pet farm animals, drink fresh apple cider, and eat apple cider donuts. There are also special fall harvest activities at specific farms.

6. Watch a fall movie at an impressive outdoor LA location
LA has such great weather year that it makes it possible to have outdoor movie screenings year-round. So, whether it’s seeing a movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, on a rooftop in LA, or a boat, LA has many options to see a fall movie screening outdoors. Here’s a curated list from TimeOut of all the LA outdoor screenings this year.
7. See professionally carved pumpkins.
During the fall season, you can see professionaly carved pumpkins at two noteworthy events in LA.
Carved
- Located in Descanso Gardenas, La Cañada.
- October 7th until 31st, 2022.
- Professionally carved pumpkins all around an area of the botanical gardens.
- Tickets are $32-$38, or you can get a discounted price if you’re a member.
- Parking is free at the Descanso Garden lots and is on a first come first serve basis.
- 20 minute drive from DTLA

Night of the Jack
- Located in the Santa Monica Hills at King Gillette Ranch, Calabasas
- September 30th until October 31st, 2022.
- Spooky, not scary, pumpkin carvings of favorite characters, LA food trucks, and drinks from the spookeasy. There’s also a nightly pumpkin carver. Walk a lighted trail of pumpkins.
- Parking must be purchased ahead of time online for $9.99 per vehicle.
- Tickets are $34.99 and up, depending on the season and time. You need a timed reservation.

8. Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
The Hollywood Forever Cemetery hosts a special Dia de Los Muertos celebration yearly. There is unique daytime (10 am – 3 pm) and nighttime (5 pm – 12 am) events that happen on October 29th, 2022.
Tickets are required for ages five and up.

9. Celebrate Oktober Fest at Big Bear
Big Bear Lake celebrates fall with Oktober Fest starting September 10th to November 5th at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. You’ll find German entertainment, music, classic Oktoberfest food, and of course, beer.

10. Haunted Hayride at Griffith Park
The Haunted Hayride is the perfect night out with friends, the family, or a fun fall date idea. It’s one of the most popular things to do during the fall in Los Angeles.
