I visited a cat train station in Japan’s countryside. Here’s how you can, too.

Whenever I visit Tokyo, I always leave a day or tw

Whenever I visit Tokyo, I always leave a day or two in my itinerary to take a few day trips outside the busy city.

Karuizawa is a well-known area for escaping into nature and relaxing — and it’s only about an hour or two out from Tokyo by train (depending on where you’re coming from).

The notably cooler temps (compared to Tokyo) make it the perfect spot to beat the heat in the summer, while Karuizawa’s premier ski resorts are very popular vacation spots in the winter.

If you have room in your schedule, I recommend staying for a night or two to fully slow down and enjoy all the area has to offer.

However, it is 100% possible to visit Karuizawa *comfortably* as a quick day trip from Tokyo. (I didn’t have to rush at all!)

Holding space for all the non-Japan moments in my life this year 🤍🫶🏼✨

2025 was the year I pulled back from posting about my life (or really anything at all) on Instagram.

It just wasn’t a space I wanted to be in creatively or personally.

I needed to hit pause and reevaluate my relationship with the app and social media in general.

Instead of personal updates on IG…

🤍I restarted (& revamped) my weekly email newsletter to share Japanese cultural nuggets, Japan tips and reflections about my experience as a Japanese American.

🤍 I created a Patreon page to share weekly “Sunday Snapshots” of my life + bonus content with stories that didn’t make it in my YouTube videos or blogs.

Both of these allowed me the space to start writing again — something I loved to do, but forgot to make time for.

2025 was a year of shedding and rebuilding.

Re-evaluating and re-discovering.

Learning and un-learning.

2025 was tough (😣) but it also made me tough.

It also included lots of new core memories and slices of life that make me smile whenever I think about them. (see photos above lol)

I feel stronger, more confident, and the most aligned I’ve ever felt with where I’m at — and where I’m going.

I’m so excited to step into 2026 with new found clarity and a strong foundation to build upon.

And for you, my friend, I hope you have an amazing year ahead and that it’s filled with lots of joy! ✨
