15 Easy Ways to Save Money
1. CANCEL automatic monthly subscriptions.
Monthly payments add up! Cancel all the automatic monthly subscriptions and memberships you aren’t using.
Consider the subscriptions that are left and ask yourself if they are essential. If you’re having a hard time deciding, cancel the ones you’re on the fence about and then see if you miss it.
2. Cut down on energy and water use.
Take an audit of your energy and water usage and see where you can reduce it. Fix any problems around the house that may be causing excess usage (i.e., leaky faucets) and pull the plug on electronics you don’t use.
3. Make your coffee at home.
Get your daily caffeine fix from home instead of going out to get it. Investing in a good coffee maker or latte machine will likely be cheaper than getting your daily fix from a coffee shop.
Use your coffee shop trips as a special treat for yourself.
4. Pickup/Takeout food instead of having it delivered.
Delivery and convenience fees can add up quickly! Either take the time to go and pick up your order or make food at home.
5. Avoid lingering in places known for impulse buys.
Create a shopping list before you head into stores, and don’t linger for too long. The longer you stay in-store or online, the more likely you will purchase something you didn’t intend to originally.
6. Designate one day a week as a no-spend day.
Intentionally decide not to spend money one day of the week. You’ll be surprised how much money you can save. Doing this will also help train you to pay more attention to your spending habits.
7. Remove yourself from email lists.
Email marketers know what they’re doing when they send you a bazillion emails all about the “ONE DAY sale that you MUST take advantage of today!!!”
Remember that there will ALWAYS be another sale. You don’t need unnecessary temptation hitting your inbox every hour of the day.
8. Use cashback sites like Rakuten.
Get money back on items that you were going to purchase anyway. Even if it’s just 1-10% back on a purchase, that’s still better than getting nothing back.
If you’re interested in signing up for Rakuten, I have a link* you can use to get $20 cashback after your first $20 purchase.
9. Plan holiday gift budgets early.
Create a list and budget for everyone on your holiday gift list early. Doing this will help you avoid feeling rushed into purchasing something last minute.
It will allow you to keep a pulse on fluctuating prices leading up to the holidays so you can take advantage of the best ones as they become available.

10. Check out your LOCAL library.
Libraries can be a significant way to save money for avid readers out there! Before buying a brand new book, check your local library to see what’s available or visit your local resellers.
Libraries also have audiobooks, classes, computers, and other technical equipment you can rent too!
11. Use cash.
People can easily overspend using credit cards because you don’t immediately see the damage being done to your account.
When you use cash, you can actually see your money dwindle as you spend.
12. Put unexpected money in your savings.
Recently received a bonus, or maybe your aunt felt extra generous this Christmas? Don’t spend it all in one place! Put some (if not all) away in your savings for a rainy day.
13. Invest in better quality clothes where it makes sense.
There are times when buying better quality is better than saving money on cheap versions.
For example, spending the extra cash on essential items that will be worn over and over is worth the extra money because it will likely last longer.
Additionally, think twice about spending a lot of money on trendy items that you won’t wear past the season or year.
14. Order water at restaurants.
Avoid the up-charge from ordering drinks at restaurants. Water is free and hydrating!
15. Maintain a budget tracker.
Keep track of your spending and notice where your money goes. Doing this will help you avoid mindlessly spending on items, and it will help you map out and find ways to cut costs when necessary.
