LA Travel Guide: Getty Villa Info & Tips

Hey there! Are you looking for local tips to get the most out of your trip to the Getty Villa?

Here you’ll find information about visiting the museum and local insider tips to make your visit easier!

First off, did you know there are two Getty museums in Los Angeles?

Theย Getty Center is located farther inland in Brentwood and houses Middle Age to Present Day art in modern architecture.

Theย Getty Villaย is closer to the ocean in the Pacific Palisades and houses Greek and Roman antiquities in a recreated Roman country home*.

Tips for visiting Getty Villa

  • Buy your parking ticket when you grab a time-entry reservation online. Purchasing ahead of time saves time when you arrive at the entrance gate.
  • Additional seating areas to eat or relax are located in a “picnic” area on the first level. There you’ll find more shaded tables and vending machines.
  • Beat the crowds by going in the morning! I also recommend taking your photos by the pool before seeing the other exhibits.
  • Note that if you bring a backpack, you will have to wear it in front of you when inside the exhibits.
  • Want to learn the history behind everything in the museum? Grab your headphones and download the Getty app to listen to their virtual guides! Or, the museum provides walking tours.
  • Is the sun too much for you? The museum provides umbrellas you can borrow to shade yourself from the sun while walking outside. I saw them heading down to the outer reflection pool area next to the stairs.
How much is admission?

FREE admission, but you have to get an entry-time reservation online here.

Where do you park?
  • You can Self-Park for $20 in the Parking Garage. Note that purchasing parking tickets in advance is suggested (to limit in-person contact).
  • You can also get parking covered for BOTH Getty museums by asking the Museum Information Desk for a Getty Center parking coupon (only valid same-day).
  • No street parking is available. You need a permit to park in the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Rideshares or taxis can drop you off in the frontโ€”just let the attendants know, and they’ll tell your driver where to go.
Is it family-friendly?

Yes!

Food options?

There’s a cafe that opens at 11 AM, a coffee kiosk, and a place to get Mediterranean-inspired afternoon tea.

Note the Garden Tea experience is only available Thursdays and Sundays and requires a reservation.

โฐย Hours of Operation

Open 10 AM-5 PM every day except Tuesdays (& Holidays).
