This is one of those places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I say that because the main areas within Nezu Shrine are narrower and get congested during peak times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Azalea Garden at Nezu Shrine opens at 9:30 am, but the Inari torii gates are open 24\/7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Otome Inari Shrine (Nezu Shrine)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recommend starting your day at the Otome Inari Shrine to beat the crowds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gate pathway here is much smaller than the infamous Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, so there&#8217;s less space to spread out during peak hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Nezu Shrine torii gate pathway is lined with vermilion torii gates leading to an Inari shrine, which is dedicated to the deity of rice and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Red torii gate pathway in Tokyo!! \ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5 #japantravel\" width=\"563\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K0ADj6fzCsA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History of the Torii Gates<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The torii gates serve as a symbolic entrance to the Inari shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The significance of the color is to ward off evil spirits, remove impurities, and bring power. It also symbolizes vitality and protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it\u2019s a popular tourist destination, the gates are considered a place for quiet reflection and There are many things to do in Ueno Park, but I suggest visiting the Tokyo National Museum first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tokyo National Museum is one of Tokyo\u2019s most visited cultural attractions and for a reason. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It attracts millions of visitors annually and offers a comprehensive overview of Japanese history and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admission<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Admission to the museum when we went was 1000 yen for Adults &amp; 500 yen for University Students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tnm.jp\/modules\/r_free_page\/index.php?id=113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1955\">Tokyo National Museum&#8217;s Visitor Information page<\/a> for museum hours, special exhibition ticket prices, and holiday closures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note that the museum is typically closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History of the Museum<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tokyo National Museum is Japan\u2019s oldest and largest museum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was established in 1872 as part of Japan\u2019s efforts to modernize and create Westernized institutions following the Meiji Restoration in 1868.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum became a cultural hub in Tokyo after it moved to its current location in Ueno Park in 1881.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its collection grew rapidly thanks to donations made from private investors, the Imperial family, and discoveries made from archaeological sites across Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-5 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure Ueno Park was originally the location of temple grounds, but after the Battle of Ueno and the Meiji Restoration, it became one of Japan\u2019s first public parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1873, the Japanese government sought to modernize the country and introduce Western-style public parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, it became a cultural and educational hub, housing several important museums and institutions like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Tokyo National Museum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">National Museum of Western Art<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">National Museum of Nature and Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Ueno Zoo (Japan\u2019s first zoo)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ueno Park is also a popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spot. So, if you\u2019re in Tokyo during Sakura season, make sure to stop by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"convertkit-form wp-block-convertkit-form\" style=\"\"><script async data-uid=\"0eb5edd7ed\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestylebyremi.kit.com\/0eb5edd7ed\/index.js\" data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" data-no-defer=\"1\" data-no-optimize=\"1\" nowprocket><\/script><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shinobazu Pond &amp; Benten-do Hall<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When visiting Ueno Park, I recommend heading over to the Shinobazu Pond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This large pond was originally intended to enhance the spiritual ambiance of the temple associated with the Tokugawa shogunate and was modeled after Lake Biwa, Japan\u2019s largest lake near Kyoto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The temple on the island is dedicated to the goddess of all things that flow, including water, words, wealth, music, and wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the pond serves as a habitat for various species of birds and aquatic life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I tend to avoid Japan in the summer, but if you go, the pond\u2019s lotus flowers bloom in the summer and are supposed to be incredibly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also a popular spot to paddle around in boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-7
